Successor of a very big tradition, Seguin Moreau was the first leading cooperage which complemented centuries of long experience with scientific methods and research. In 1983 the basis for it was created with a cooperation agreement with the enology faculty in Bordeaux.
Since this arrangement three researchers work have been working on examination the relation of wine and wood anew. They are investigating the exchange relations between both media.
From the wood to the wood stave, from the stave to the barrel and from the barrel to the wine, these were the first research projects which examined the importance of the enology for the choice of the trees in the forest and the use of the self-possessed ripening of wood in the free air. Also the toasts of the staves which release aromatic stuffs are an object of the topical research and generate again new aromas in conjunction with aromas of wine.
Numerous experiments in the big wineries of France and the worldwide led to the famous product series like the barrels from " French high forest ", „ American oak ", „ oak from the Caucasus " and „ Reference - European oak “.
Barrels of Seguin Moreau are "Customized" enological instruments which are controlled on every manufacturing step. They give to the winegrower a huge number of vinification possibilities to generate personalized and individual wines.
